An approach with YOU in mind...
Birth Matters was conceived in early 2014... and after 9 long months of labor... a partnership was born (we aren't kidding, it actually DID take 9 months)! Beginning as solo practicing doulas; Ildi Sebestyen and Mariah Falin teamed up to provide a shared-call partnership for their clients. This unique practice style allows them to be more available for their families, while continuing to do the work they both love in a sustainable relationship.

Why Birth Matters NW?
I.e. - what is included?
Unbiased, comprehensive doula experience ($1200-1600*) which includes:
Our goal is to support your birth experience with compassionate care. Together we have supported over 220 families and maintain active roles in the local community to expand our knowledge to best support and serve you. Each prenatal with you focuses on how how to make this experience what you want from it as well as discussing the elements of informed decision making, evidence based information, and advocacy for your choices in preparation for birth.
The on call time for you begins as soon as the contract is signed. As we limit the total number of clients we serve monthly (please read about changes to the number of clients we will be serving after April here), you are less likely to have a doula you don't know attending your birth. In the event that the primary doula is supporting another family or (it does happen) is ill themselves. we do utilize a strong backup relationship with a select number of other doulas.
**Please let us know if there are financial constraints. We are happy to work out payment plans, or partial barter/trade and believe that a great fit can be a deciding factor if our client load allows.
To book a no-cost consultation with Mariah and Ildi simply click here
and choose a 40 minute appointment. You will be prompted to select a location to meet (we suggest a local coffeeshop - thank goodness we live in the Starbucks capital of the world). We will contact you upon booking to confirm the location and time.
How do I know if you are the one?
We loved you, now what?
After meeting, we will send you our contract for review and signature. Receipt of a signed contract and your retainer will guarantee your place in the calendar. After that we will book the appointments for the first and second prenatal visits between week 32 and 37. If you retain our services after 36 weeks, we may offer a longer dual prenatal. Prior to these appointments we will also send you an intake form to collect some easy information up front. Since the time range from hire to birth can vary greatly, this is a great opportunity to remind you that we are an available resource to you from the point of hire. Questions? Concerns? Conspiracy theories? Excellent care begins when information is being shared!
I think I am in labor, now what?!
We have one call number that will be provided to our clients so getting in touch with us is simple. We will help you navigate your early labor and help decide when to join you in labor for more hands on support. The doula will be with you, working through your contractions and helping you navigate through your labor until the birth of your baby. After your baby is born, that doula will remain with you to provide comfort techniques, assist with breastfeeding, and help you settle. There is also a handy guide on resource page called 'I'm in labor, now what?" that provides additional guidance on what to share and when to call.
After birth, what happens?
The doula will follow up with you for your postpartum visits after your baby's birth and you will have access to that same call number in the event that any questions arise during your early postpartum time (usually the first 30 days). The first visit typically occurs 3-5 days after baby has arrived, and a second follow up is available to first time parents around the 2-week mark. The first postpartum is when the second half of the fee is collected.
Together we also offer additional services. These include private and personalized childbirth education classes. Placenta encapsulation, lactation support, belly casting, and Bengkung belly binding. If you are interested in one or more of these services, please let us know so that we can put a package together for you.
